About Edinburgh

Edinburgh has been the capital city of Scotland since the 15th century. It has two distinct areas: the old town and the new town, both of which have UNESCO World Heritage Status. Here is a list from Discover Scotland on places to visit.

Places that are worth seeing in the old town are: Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile, the Grassmarket, Victoria Street (thought to be inspiration for Diagon Alley in Harry Potter), Grayfriars Bobby and more. Most of these locations should be covered in the walking tour excursion on Thursday, but are worth a visit before then.

In the New Town, there is a popular shopping street called Prince’s street which has great views of Edinburgh Castle, the Scott Monument and Prince’s Street Gardens.

If you are interested in walking or small hikes there are a few places within the city that are easy to reach. The most famous being Arthurs seat, but for an easier climb there is also Calton hill which is situated in the very centre of the city. For great views of the full city, there is also Blackford hill which is a short walk from the Kings Building Campus
